Preparing for surgery

PREPARING

FOR SURGERY

Pre-operative tests

Most patients needing a general anaesthetic will have pre-operative blood tests. For some of the laparoscopic (key hole) operations patients have to organise blood donation prior to their procedure. All patients currently must have negative COVID-19 swabs 48-72 hours prior to admission.

If you have other medical problems you may also need additional tests regarding your heart, lungs, liver or kidneys to ensure the safest possible anaesthetic and surgery.
